General
This is a great trekking tour for those who only have a day to spare and wish to do some moderate trekking in the countryside not far from Chiang Mai city.
Itinerary
Your guide picks you up at 08.00 am from your accommodation in Chiang Mai. We first drive for an hour to a local market in Mae Wang where we bus the supplies we need for the trek. From the market, we drive for another 45 minutes on a rural road past villages and fields until we reach our trek starting point.
We trek for about 45 minutes to visit a waterfall. From the waterfall, we continue to trek for another hour and a half through the forest, terrace rice fields until we reach a Karen tribe village. From the village, we have a 15-minute trek to a second waterfall where we take a longer break. You can go for a swim while your guide prepares lunch for you. We also boil water in a bamboo stem to make tea or coffee and make cups from bamboo.
After an hour-long break, we start our afternoon trek of about two and a half hours. We trek in nature and downhill along the Mae Wang river and see several waterfalls, rapids and terraced rice fields along the way. Before we arrive at the finish point, we cross the river on a sling and bamboo bridge and then trek for a couple of minutes to where our truck awaits to take us back to Chiang Mai. We will get back to Chiang Mai at about 6.30 pm – 7.00 pm.
