If you are looking for an authentic bamboo rafting adventure, look no further, as this tour takes you to the best area for bamboo rafting in northern Thailand with hardly any other tourists around.
We pick you up at your accommodation at 07.30 am and fist drive for about one hour to a waterfall in Mae Taeng area of Chiang Mai province. After taking in the beautiful scenery and having a bit of a break, we then continue to drive for another hour and 20 minutes on a rural road passing local villages. The drive on the narrow and winding road is slow but well worth it as it takes us to our hiking start point at the base of a mountain.
From here we hike in the wonderful scenery of dense jungle forest for about 2 hours (depending on your pace) uphill until we reach the peak and then downhill to a remote Lahu tribe village. This village is very secluded and can only be reached by walking or bamboo rafting. We enjoy a delicious local lunch in the village and when we are rested and ready, prepare bamboo rafts to carry us out of the jungle.
We bamboo raft down Mae Taeng River surrounded by rainforest for about 2 and a half hours and disembark at about 4:30 or 5 PM. We then have another 1 and a half hour of driving to reach Chiang Mai city so we arrive quite late, about 6 or 7 PM.
