This route is in Doi Inthanon National Park area and covers pristine rain forest. We hike in the jungle and spend the night on the ridge of the mountain next to Doi Inthanon. Enjoy watching the sun set over Inthanon mountain and see it rise in the early morning. We stop at a number of hidden waterfalls as we make our way through the jungle.

Day 1

We start the tour at 7:30 AM when we pick you up at your accommodation in Chiang Mai. We first drive for 45 minutes to a local market to buy supplies for the trek. Then continue driving on rural road through farmland for one hour until we reach a Hmong tribe village (Meow village). The village us a part of King’s Agricultural Project so we spend some time exploring the village before we start our trek.

We hike for one and a half hour to an impressive 70-meter-high waterfall where we have a break for lunch and freshen up.  After lunch, we continue hiking for two and a half to three hours to a mountain ridge.

In this area we set up our camp and prepare camp fire. Enjoy the view as the sun sets behind Doi Inthanon and gives way to millions of stars. Below us are the villages and plantations dimly lit.

We cook our dinner in bamboo stems and banana leafs. Our ingredients are from a local market but cooked in a jungle style. We are careful to not damage the jungle or influence the ecosystem in any way.

Day 2

We rise early to catch the sunrise and have some tea and coffee to wake up. We boil water for drinks in bamboo. After a hardy breakfast, we start a three to three and a half hour trek through the jungle until we reach the next waterfall. Here we take a longer break to swim and cook lunch.

After lunch, we hike two to two and a half hours downhill by Mae Wang river and see several waterfalls, rapids and rice fields along the way. We also pass a local elephant camp and cross the river on a bridge made of a tree trunk!

Note: The best time to enjoy the rice fields is from late June to early October.

When we reach our car, we have about one and a half hour drive to Chiang Mai city. Drop off is around 6 or 6:30 PM.

Available departures

This tour is available all year long, but we don't recommend camping in July, August, and September. We stay in a local village instead. Please make an inquiry on the right if you would like to make a booking for this tour.

Doi Inthanon

Doi Inthanon

Doi Inthanon area is great for trekking trip year round. Even in the hot season, this area remains much cooler than the city. Even though there are some touristic spots in Doi Inthanon, there are also plenty of hidden trails, villages and waterfalls worthy of exploration.
