General
This trip includes a number of activities and is great for getting to know the countryside and tribal people of northern Thailand.
First Day
We leave Chiang Mai at 9 am in a pickup truck and drive for 45 minutes to Mae Tang District to the north of Chiang Mai. We first stop at a local market to buy some supplies for the tour. Then we continue driving for about 40 minutes more to a waterfall. At the waterfall, we take a break from the drive and you can go for a swim too. We can also have an early lunch here.
After that, we continue driving for about an hour until we reach our trekking start point. From here, we hike for about two hours up and downhill through the forest until we reach a local Lahu tribe village. We stay in the village for the night. The village is near Mae Tang river and on the side of the mountain, so you can enjoy mountain and river views. In the evening, you can walk around the village, talk with the villagers and enjoy a delicious freshly cooked dinner.
Second Day
After breakfast, we prepare bamboo rafts by the river and raft for about two hours downstream. This part of Mae Taeng river is great for bamboo rafting as it flows through the valley and we’re surrounded by a lush rain forest all the way.
We finish rafting at a local Shan village and have our lunch there. Our truck picks us up after lunch and we drive for 45 minutes to Akha tribe village from where we hike for about two hours through the forest and mountain terrain until we reach a local elephant camp and spend time feeding, riding, and bathing the elephants. then drive 1 hour to city.(hotel.)
From the elephant camp, we drive for about one hour back to Chiang Mai city where we arrive at around 5 PM.
