Mae Wang is a beautiful rural area only an hour drive south-west from Chiang Mai city. It borders on Doi Inthanon National park. This area offers wonderful nature views, traditional Karen villages, is studded with waterfalls and waterways and gives you a unique opportunity to see the rural life in northern countryside and also enjoy some exciting adventures.

Karen tribal people live in Mae Wang area. They are the first tribal people to move to Thailand and they have established a long cultural tradition in the area. They are mostly farmers and grow rice, vegetables and fruit for their own consumption and to sell at the market. Karen women are great weavers and weave traditional clothing for their families and for sale on wooden looms.
